Microverse is a remote school that helps people around the world to become a remote developer and fulfill their dream to become full-stack remote developers without charging any upfront cost until they find a job. Their objective is to close the global gap between talent and opportunity by training and connecting one million people to jobs by 2030. You may be one of those one million if you wish to be a remote developer. Still not interested to join, let me point out some pros and cons about Microverse. You are free to say that I am biased in pointing out microverse pros and cons. It’s your choice, who can stop you from that 😊. This is all I have, for now. If I’m lucky enough to find some more pros and cons in the future then I will certainly update the article be sure to check it in the future (which implies you can follow me for any update 😆);

Pros:

Request timed out. Fetching data from the server took too long. Server error!! 😜

Cons:

404 Page not found. looks like you are lost. let me help you, go to the 🏠homepage.😉 😂

Okay okay fine let’s go to the point, you are here to read my journey to Microverse so far in the amazing world of learning and how to become a remote web developer.

Let’s begin; I was like you a few months earlier curious and excited to become a remote developer, and reading some blog posts or articles regarding remote development, and finding a way to become a remote developer. I was lucky to find some blog posts (I am sorry but I couldn’t figure out the exact blog post) that directed me to Microverse. After some research regarding Microverse, I was excited to join the community and be a part of them and filled the admission form which is the first part of joining their community. I said first because they have multiple steps to follow for the admissions process. Follow along with me on each step and congratulate me with some claps 👏 after each of my success, I appreciate that. Let me break down these steps one by one and how I accomplished each one:

First step: Filling out the Admission Form.

This is the first step to become a Micronaut click here and start applying to Microverse, but I want to mention that previously there was no need for a microverse account to be registered but now first you have to register your Microverse account, and then you can continue. They are always improving their service and quality of work they deliver, so you can say that it’s one of their improvement in a short period.

Second step: Solving coding challenges.

The second step is to solve 4 coding challenges provided by Microverse to showcase your knowledge regarding your understanding of programming. Once you solve it and submit it they will reach out to you for the next step. Don’t worry it's not compulsory to get it right on your first go, you can try as much as you like until you solve them all. It was not tough for me as I had some experience in programming. Once I submitted my coding challenges, after a few days I got a mail from Sher Tapang (Admission Coordinator) for passing my coding challenges and process for my next step. And don’t forget to congratulate me 🎉.

Third Step: Check-in Form.

This is the part where I got stuck for some time because we have to create a short video describing ourselves. But if you are not a nerd like me and are comfortable speaking in front of a camera it's easy for you, as easy for me to solve the coding challenges 😜.

After few days, tried to come out of my comfort zone and started making an introduction video; just stayed in front of the camera couldn't speak out any words, if something came out of my mouth then it would be like; Hello, I am Dipesh Bajgain from Nepal. After that just a pause. Again the second try; failed 😐, the third try; failed 😵 I’m sorry, but forgot the count. Couldn’t make a video that day. What a shame, and an unproductive day 😞.

I read somewhere about human psychology that, if people are having a hard time completing their goal, then they tend to find an excuse for not doing it more often, than a motive to complete it. So, being a human trapped in a maze of human psychology 😭. A thought started to pop out, let’s just leave it, you are fine with what you are. You are not good enough, so on and on.

After a few days, I found a path out of the maze 😊, with new hope and energy, again I started to make my introduction video. Another wasted day without a result. My inner self was saying, oh my god! what was that dude, Are you kidding me? Is that all you got? Shame on you 😭.

After some days of arguing and constantly motivating myself, I gathered all of my courage and finally made my introduction video 😎. Uff!! what a relief.

If you would like to watch my video after all those long hauls, here it is. (Alert: If you don’t want to die out laughing 😜 please don’t watch it. And if you’re using earphones/headphones be sure to make your volume low 😆.)

This is a creepy video 😆, with time and practice I will get better and that is what I am learning at Microverse.

After submission of the check-in form, I got a response within 2–3 working days from Gaby Saurez about my approval. And the next step is all about getting paired with 3 other applicants to build a collaborative project with each of them. I am eagerly waiting for your congratulations now😃 🎉.

Fourth Step: Building a collaborative project.

After my check-in form was approved I got repaired with 3 other applicants with whom I have to invest my 4 hours with each of them. Where we have to do one coding challenge and a simple web development project and I said simple because it’s simple and we don’t have to invest our time making it perfect. This process is all about getting an idea about how Microverse remote pair programming works. Anyway, you are there to learn. And this step is really fun because you get to know someone around the world and build something with them.

This is what you will be doing throughout the Microverse program so be sure to analyze it and make your mind if you are ready for this approach of learning with someone remotely instead of the traditional approach. And I love this approach to learning.

Fifth Step: Microverse Admission Interview

After completing my collaborative project with 3 partner’s I got an email regarding the Interview process as the last step. As the interview was asynchronous with pre-recorded questions from hireflix, I did it on my available time, and whenever I was ready for it. As I have mentioned about my fear of facing the camera earlier 😆, I have to be prepared for this too.

As I started my interview with hireflix, I got the first question and there was my time to start answering the question 😲. So what I did? that’s a secret 😆. Actually, I was nervous with a red face and because of my nervousness, now I was confused about introducing myself 😆. I said a few words and then umm and hmm also there is not an option to pause or stop your interview process 😰. So, I just closed the tab with the interview process 😆 I don’t know if that is submitted or not. And in the next try, I gathered all of my courage and answered all those five questions. Wow finally, it’s a time to celebrate tada 🎉 🎉.

After completing my interview, within 2 working days, I got a mail regarding information about an acceptance call. I was now officially a Micronauts, waiting for an acceptance call.

At the time of writing this article, I am an active student of microverse completing 12 weeks of my curriculum. And I have learned so much within these 12 weeks which basically would take me at least 1 year to learn all these and still more to learn. Why did I say 1 year? it’s because when you are learning yourself you will just skip your days of learning saying I will learn it later but you are not sure when you will do that (this may not implies to everyone but I am one of that guy). And also you will get someone as a partner to study together who will help you if you need help and you will help them if they need help so that you don’t get stuck. You will be accountable for them and they will be for you to learn together like a gym buddy. And after all, what’s amazing is you will have a stand-up team of 6 outstanding buddies, who will always be there to support, guide, and motivate you throughout the program. You will meet with them daily in the morning and evening. Ah, there is so much I could just go on and on this is why the server took too long 😆 while I was pointing out the pros. But this article is being too long. So why not join Microverse yourself and find out.

If you have read this far I want to say you that there are always learning opportunities out there grab them and never stop learning. In my scenario, it was Microverse, because of their program structure for no upfront cost which made a feasible goal for someone like me who may not have large sums of money at once to join the program.

Before finishing this article I want to share a quote with you.

Thoughts of doubt and fear never accomplish anything, and never can.
- James Allen, As a Man Thinketh

So, never doubt yourself, never stop learning.
